To Be or Not To Be....

Well, the shrine in the basement has come down. The Canucks were knocked out of the Stanley Cup playoff about a week ago. Good news and bad news on a few levels -

1. Bad news because I enjoy watching hockey and doing so also affords me a good block of time to get some knitting done. Especially when the games go into overtime.

2. Good news because now #3 and his friends won't be piling into the basement and making more noise at the age of 20 than they did at the age of 6. While I enjoy it when the kids have their friends over, they're like primal cavemen when they're watching a hockey game.

I've taken the advise of Wendy and Kate regarding my pile of unfinished items. I've finally finished the STR inside out socks, sewn up the seams on the otherwise finished mauve socks and finished the green scarf. The red scarf has been ripped - too frustrating to work with mohair. Maybe some other time when I've taken a sedative. The blue scarf (both versions) and the white sock have been ripped as well as the blue sweater. But poor old Icarus is still waiting for those last nine rows.

In the meantime I started another sock - I know - I should finish one or two more things in the pile. But I signed up for sockapalooza 4 and I thought I'd give Conwy a try. Great pattern, but not for this yarn. What is more frustrating than investing the time to knit something only to find out part way through that it's not going to work. Oh, I suppose there are a ton of more frustrating things, but today I've gone from this

to this ..
The yarn was too thin, the needles (at 2.25) too big and the darn sock is too tight. What's that about gauge? If I'd check the gauge I'd have saved myself a few days of work.

It would have fit over my heel and around my calf, but stretched to the max. And how do I know that? Foolishly I tried it on and in the process snapped one of the bamboo needles. Then while I was ripping back the sock, Miles decided to chew the end of another needle. This hasn't been a good couple of weeks for the bamboo dpn's.

He looks like he could use a walk - so could I
