Socks and Wine...do they mix?

Here we have a picture of our sockapalooza sock enjoying a bottle of Australia's finest. Well actually, the wine was so so. It was the cute label that caught the sock's attention.

Here we are many days later and the sock is ready for ribbing and cast off. So many days and so many hours later and I realize that maybe, just maybe, I should have used a smaller needle size. This was knit on 2.75mm and I just don't like the looseness (is that a word) of the knit.

Off to knitpicks to order some toothpicks and more sock yarn. My sockapalooza partner likes her socks bright and bold so lets see how much I can squeeze into the next month. Call me crazy.

Hats, Hats and More Hats

I started (and finished) a preemie hat (or toque as we Canadians like to call them) on the way home from Whistler last Friday completed another one on Saturday and another last night. They're a great project for using up scraps of yarn and are super quick to make up. I figure I'll try and do 3 a week until Easter and then they're off to Children's Hospital in Vancouver. If any local readers want to add to the tally, I'd gladly collect your handmade goodies and take everything in together. This site has some info on patterns and sizing.

And because I can't send the baby blanket to Italy until I'm sure all traces of skunk are gone, Winnnie is modelling the hat that was whipped up and sent over with a few other goodies to sweet little baby Marta, who is now 1 month old.

Finished Bearclaws and More Snow

What's this? Days away from spring, and more snow?

Well only up here. #2 and I went up for a few days of R&R. Yes, it's spring break, the kids are out of school and off we went without them.

Why?

Well, #4 is soon to be Sweet (?) Sixteen and the age combined with the fact that she is an Aries translates into "If I don't want to do something, you CAN'T make me!" Short and sweet - she didn't want to come along.

#5 decided that she would have more fun staying behind with her gramma and going shopping.

So three days without any kids meant that #2 and I could do anything we darn well pleased. Very relaxing indeed.

The second bear claw was finished. The first of a pair of socks for my sockapalooza pal was started as well as a hat for the preemie project. Annie has started a 'knitalong' during lent. 40 Days for Others. I'm hoping to get a few more items for the preemie project and perhaps another set or two of bearclaws for the Sisters of Atonement.

Oh The Weather Outside is Frightful

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
And the fire is so delightful.
Since we've no place to go,
let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Just the tune that every kid sings as they head off for spring break.

A picture of the latest work in progress. One completed bearclaw from the pattern created by Nadia. The other one is in the works and once finished, these will be sent off to #3 in Victoria. Hopefully in time for the remnants of this winter weather.

The Not So Sweet Smell of.....

Well - not much knitting going on these last few days. Thursday was spent cleaning like a demon and washing everything that could be. Doors and windows are constantly open, there are air sponges in every room of the house and still..... okay, it doesn't smell as bad, but it still stinks. Actually, if I think about it, it probably smells worse than I think because my nose has gotten used to it. Blech!!!

And guess what was in the kitchen, the worst hit part of the house? Yes, the baby blanket. I've washed it, I've hung it outside but I can still smell skunk. I just don't think I'll send it over.

Any suggestions on how to treat this lingering odor? Or is time the only remedy?

Pepe Le FRICKIN' Peu

I always liked the Pepe Le Peu on the Bugs Bunny Show. But I didn't ever want to deal with the STENCH of skunk on a STUPID dog at 5:15 in the morning!!!!!
I was also thinking..."I sure could use a day off." But not so that I could scrub the dog, wash LOADS of laundry and feel like a pariah in the grocery store because I too smell like I've been skunked. I'm sure I've given the clerks at Save-on (thankfully open at 6 am) something to talk about today.
ARGHHHHHHHHH
